15 Dec Jessie Jamz Has Style
Jessie Jamz is an LA based wardrobe stylist who styles everything from advertising to music videos and fashion editorials—including Stepforward’s latest photo shoot! Just last month, Jessie styled actual rodeo bull riders and bareback riders for a Coors Banquet beer campaign in the Colorado Springs and continues to book incredibly unique shoots all over the world. She lives in Los Angeles and styles lifestyle, commercials, celebrity, lookbook, music, e-commerce, and much more. We love her style.
How Did Jessie Get Started?
Jessie attended Idyllwild Arts Academy, CCA, SVA, and SFAI, where she received a dual BFA in Painting and Design & Technology, and was hired by Ed Hardy as a graphic designer right after graduation. After a few months, Jesse was promoted to lead jacket designer; it was a role for which she had little technical training, but Jessie rose to the occasion and actually learned how to design clothes under the tutelage of some incredible designers. Once she was confident in her skills, she left Ed Hardy and started designing for different clothing labels around Los Angeles. Her Stepforward moment came while observing her designs being photographed — she realized that styling was actually a job, and one that she wanted to be doing full-time. So, she began assisting local stylists, learning the ropes of that side of the industry. Hands-on training and working with a multitude of products gave Jessie the versatility and skill-set she needed to be a successful stylist on her own. Jessie lives by these words: “Energy and persistence conquer all things.” She keeps her head down and is super focused on set — we’ve seen her at work! And the results are always creative and on brand.
Part of the challenge in being one’s own boss is staying on top of all the bookings that come in, and keeping in touch with clients over all the details. “Emails!” Jessie exclaims. “So many emails that need to be answered in a timely manner to secure the next client and keep my workflow moving forward.” Having a smartphone has helped Jessie stay organized and keeping a sense of urgency in her communications allows each job to be performed smoothly. She’s a globe trotter and always has her eye on the latest fashions to continue growing as a stylist.
Owning Her Style
Though Jessie styles other people and objects for a living, she also thinks about how she wants to be received when she styles herself. Every woman goes through a metamorphosis during or after college, and Jessie was no exception. Working at high-profile companies and learning under some major fashion icons was a big motivator to dress in a way that reveals her personality without revealing too much. “I love to wear stretchy clothes that give a bit and cover my body completely so I can maintain an air of professionalism on every set I’m on.” She’s the face of her own company, a fact of which she’s constantly aware. “Being comfortable is important, but the style I honed at college, in a big city like San Francisco, and through my many collaborations continues to evolve as I grow in the fashion industry.” We loved Jessie’s relaxed yet professional sense of style on set, and look forward to seeing how she evolves in the future.
